Counselor/Camp Related

How many campers will be attending?
In our first year as a camp, we are able to hold up to 100 campers with the field space and facilities provided at Edgewood College. We are expecting 60-80 campers for this summer. Should we receive an overload of applications, campers will be selected on the extent of their previous Ultimate experience.

What is the camper to counselor ratio?
Next Level will have a ratio of 1 counselor for every 8-10 campers. In addition, the camp will be bringing in guest counselors for special lectures and clinics during the session.

What ages can attend the camp? Is the camp co-ed?
Next Level is intended for high school males from the ages of 14-18. Those who have recently graduated high school and not yet attended a university are still eligible to participate. While we are very interested in making the camp co-ed starting in the summer of 2010, our field situation for this summer won't allow us enough space to host both genders. We apologize, and will certainly put the efforts forth to make Next Level open to both males and females in 2010.

What kind of Ultimate experience should I have if I am interested in attending Next Level?
Next Level instruction asks that all applicants have a firm understanding of the sport of Ultimate. Having participated on a high school team or within an organized league is strongly encouraged.

How in-shape do campers need to be?
Campers should be prepared to be physically active for 4-6 hours a day with moderate rest/meal breaks and a high level of intensity. Showing up to camp out of shape will decrease a camper's potential for learning, and increase his chance of injury. We highly recommend taking the time to prepare your body for a week of intense learning and competition.

Who's coming to the camp?
Next Level Ultimate Camp's inaugural session is expected to draw both regionally from the Midwest, and nationally from ultimate hot-spots such as Atlanta, Seattle, and San Francisco. International players are highly encouraged to apply.

What kind of supervision is provided?
The Next Level counselors and staff are hand-selected based on their ability to lead and supervise. Edgewood College provides 24/7 emergency response communication, and does a walk-through of the dorms several times a night. Any camper can dial "0" on the nearest dorm phone to talk to an operator for maintenance, technical, or emergency needs. Additionally, we will have a staff member available for campers during all hours of the night should they need assistance. A Certified Athletic Trainer will also be available to campers for all of their medical needs.

How do the meals work? I am Vegetarian/Vegan. Will the cafeteria accommodate my diet?
Campers and Counselors will eat at the cafeteria at Edgewood College for all three delicious meals a day. Dinner will be included on Saturday of arrival, and breakfast and lunch will be included on Thursday of departure. The cafeteria on campus is very flexible and can accommodate any type of dietary needs. If you have specific questions, please feel free to contact us. We will take all of the steps necessary to fit each camper's specific needs.

What do we do when we are not playing Ultimate?
While Next Level is heavily focused on improving as Ultimate players, campers will have plenty of social time. Come dinnertime, most campers should be sufficiently exhausted (or else we haven't done our job!), but there will still be many fun evening activities planned throughout the week including disc games, movies, video games, "Trade Night", and a field trip.

What are the dorms like?
Next Level will be using Dominican Hall, the newest residence hall on Edgewood's campus, which was awarded LEED Silver certification by the U.S. Green Building Council. LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is the USGBC's rating system for "designing and constructing the world's greenest, most energy efficient, and high performing buildings". The hall is only two years old, and has more of an "apartment feel" than that of an average college dorm. The rooms are fully air-conditioned, have a private bathroom in each suite (which holds 3-4 people). Each floor of the dorm has a common room with a kitchenette, television, and computer (with Internet access).

Can/Should I bring personal electronics to camp (iPods, Computers, Speakers, Cell Phones, Tamagotchis)?
The focus of Next Level is Ultimate, and we therefore ask you to leave any electronic distractions at home. If campers feel the need to bring a personal music player (iPod or mp3 Player) for use at night, we ask that it is stored away and left in their room during the day.

Cell phones are allowed at camp but must be left in dorm room during the day or any camp activities.

There will be computers with Internet access available for campers on each floor of the dorm.

Logistical Information

How do I register?
The registration for Next Level starts by filling out basic contact information on our website. We will then send the full camp application by email. Spots are secured by a $200 deposit submitted within 3 weeks of receipt of the application.

What is the camp cancellation policy? Can I get a refund if something comes up?
If a player is registered for camp and becomes unable to attend, please notify us immeadiately. A complete refund schedule is available on our refunds page.

Beyond the camp tuition, are there any other associated fees?
There is a $75 dollar key card deposit that will be refunded at the end of camp after the camper's key card is returned. The deposit should be in check form and made out to Next Level Ultimate. The check will be returned to the camper upon departure.

Are there any special discounts? How can I save some money?
Next Level will offer discounts to applicants that...

Travel Related

If I am driving to camp, where and when should I arrive and depart?
There is parking available at Edgewood College if campers drive themselves. While camp is in session, campers will not be able to use vehicles.

If I am flying to camp, where and when should I arrive and depart?
Transportation will be provided for campers arriving at Madison's Dane County Regional-Truax Airport (MSN) and Milwaukee's General Mitchell International Aiport (MKE).

A private Next Level shuttle will depart from MKE and MSM to Edgewood College. It will leave the airport at 2:00pm, allowing campers enough time to arrive, unpack, get acquainted with one another, and eat dinner before Saturday evening introduction activities. We therefore ask campers to arrive at the airport between 8:00am and 1:00pm. Depending on how many campers fly directly into Madison, we will provide additional shuttles to Edgewood. Campers should arrive no later than 2:00pm at either airport.

While we will do our best to accommodate all campers in the event of a flight delay or cancellation, campers are responsible for providing their own transportation if they get in past 2:00pm at either airport for whatever reason.

When should day campers arrive and depart each day?
Day campers should arrive at Edgewood College at 8 AM each day (except for July 25th, where they will arrive at 3 PM), and should plan on leaving/get picked up at 10:00 pm.

Can parents come and watch during the day?
Because of our arrangements with the City of Madison, and our field facilities at Edgewood College, we ask that there are no spectators throughout the week at camp. Parents WILL be allowed to come and watch their kids perform during the final day of camp (Game Day).
