Schedule

While Next Level is heavily focused on improving as Ultimate players, campers will have plenty of social time. Come dinnertime, most campers should be sufficiently exhausted (or else we haven’t done our job!), but there will still be many fun evening activities planned throughout the week including disc games, movies, video games, “Trade Night”, and a field trip.

Sample Daily Schedule

The below sample schedule is taken from a day dedicated to man to man defense. Skills emphasized for the day include, among other defensive strategies, situational positioning, advanced marking, and help (or poach) D . Drills are tailored to build on each other as the day progresses, and each scrimmage focuses on aggregating accumulated defensive knowledge in a game time environment.

7:00 AM: Wake-up

7:15 : Breakfast

8:15 : Head to Fields

8:30 : Cleat Up and Partner Throwing

8:45 : Morning Warm-up

9:30 : Announcements

9:45 : Skills Presentation

Man to Man positioning:

Situational positioning for defenders against a horizontal and vertical offense. Particular attention paid to front/back positioning against a vert offense, and triangle defense against a horizontal stack

10:00 : Skills Stations

Station 1: Two on Two Lane Defense (Vert)

Two offensive players simulate cutting from a side stack (vert) offense, with two defenders working to stop them on the strong side. Emphasis on positioning and rotation to prevent easy upfield passes.

Station 2: Four on Four Diamond Defense (Horizontal)

Four offensive players simulate cutting in a horizontal stack against four defenders. Emphasis on help D and “choosing” what opportunities to give offense.

Station 3: Win the Box

Two players match up against one another in a 10 yd by 5 yd vertical column. Defensive goal is to stay in front of cutting offender, while at the same time not giving up more than 2 yards on an out cut (not fronting blindly). Offense is given 10 seconds to cut. Emphasis on defensive foot work and body positioning.

10:30 : Round 1: Scrimmage

Srimmage Emphasis:

Teams are placed in a game of 10 pull, where each team receives the disc 10 times in a row, and may play any offense they would like. The defensive team is presented with the opportunity to practice different man to man defenses and techniques as discussed in the morning’s skill stations.

11:45 : Morning Cool Down

12:00 PM : Return to Campus

12:15 : Lunch

1:15 : Head to Fields

1:30 : Cleat Up and Afternoon Warm-up

Competition: One on one Marking

An update to the traditional “monkey in the middle” marking drill: players compete in a one on one in marking situation where they: a) Begin the mark on the wrong side of their man b) Are working against a motion offense (marking off-the-run) c) Mark for 2 marks in a row with movement in-between.

2:15 : Round 2 Games

3:30 : Round 3 Games
